From humble beginnings in a church basement in Calgary, Alberta, the organization's software and learning system have been implemented in 15 school districts throughout North America. The software and learning system focuses on teaching students how to learn and to be passionate about that learning, before delving into content.
The software provides educators with the ability to easily evaluate students’ executive function performance through a scientifically validated 48-point assessment. It also allows for the formation of a professional learning community, enabling educators to effortlessly implement Fueling Brains in a daycare, preschool, school campus, or school district.
“Our research shows that by implementing the Fueling Brains learning system and using our software to reliably track students’ brain development, educators can work with students, building up their executive function skills, allowing them to become better learners,” says Dr. Anil Karim, CEO. “We know that each student we work with has the potential to become a lifelong learner and joyful adult who contributes meaningfully to their community.”
Fueling Brains’ experts help districts maximize their software by working with educators so they truly understand students' brain development. School districts are recognizing that their traditional approach to educating students is, in many ways, falling short. They face extreme pressure to have students perform to state-level standards and are struggling to change the results they are currently achieving.
They are also becoming aware of research published by Harvard University that shows that brain development can be maximized at different stages throughout a student’s life. Specifically, 80 percent of a student’s brain is formed by age three, and 90 percent by age five. They now understand that expanding human potential during these formative years is easier. By applying the Fueling Brains system of learning and technology platform in earnest, educators can accelerate brain development and positively influence academic achievement.
A district where Fueling Brains is implemented is Goose Creek Consolidated Independent School District in Houston. Before implementing the program, the team worked with the University of Houston- Clear Lake to assess baseline data of their students’ brain scores. The results indicated limited brain development was occurring in their PreK 3 through Kindergarten program. Although teachers were working hard to deliver curriculum content, many students were simply not ready. Their brain development had not yet reached the capacity to meaningfully engage in learning and teachers had not been given the tools to address brain gaps.
Fueling Brains facilitates a paradigm shift for many districts, moving from content-focused strategies to brain development.
